Description

This large, antique wooden vessel from Nagaland, Northeast India, is hand-carved from a single trunk of solid Saal wood. Originally used as a rice storage container, it was crafted to protect its contents from insects and humidity in the region’s heavy rainforest climate. The surface features a unique, faceted texture, while the interior is smoothly hollowed out—showcasing the natural beauty and imperfections of the wood.

Created by the Naga tribes, who lived in complete isolation and built every item by hand from local materials, this vessel reflects the philosophy of wabi-sabi—celebrating simplicity, imperfection, and authenticity. Its raw sculptural form aligns beautifully with Axel Vervoordt-inspired interiors, offering a grounding, organic presence.

Perfect as a planter, pedestal or standalone statement piece in minimal, rustic or contemporary settings. Each piece is one-of-a-kind.
