Less, but better. Made to last.

It took several careers and eight countries to bring me here.

Growing up in Canada and spending 15 years in London, I developed an appreciation for craftsmanship, natural materials and things made with intention. But it was in Belgium that the idea for General Goods began to take shape.

After many years in fashion, including running my own label in London, Los Angeles, Como and Warsaw, I became increasingly uncomfortable with its relentless cycle of newness. More collections. More production. More waste. The idea that something could be relevant for one season and obsolete the next never made much sense to me.

I have always been drawn to the opposite: restraint, beautiful materials, considered proportions and functional design. To pieces whose beauty comes from their simplicity rather than from an attempt to make a statement.

General Goods is a collection of things I believe are worth living with.

The gallery brings together vintage and contemporary furniture, objects and materials, from mid-century icons by Pierre Jeanneret and Poul Kjærholm, to contemporary pieces made by small workshops in Belgium and beyond. Alongside them are more humble, everyday objects, such as hand-thrown ceramic vessels made in Athens for our scented candles, or cushions repurposed from vintage Turkish hemp. 

There is no strict formula. What connects everything is a belief in craft, function, materiality and longevity.

The gallery itself is deliberately more like an evolving living room than a traditional showroom. Pieces come and go, are moved around and find new combinations. Some are rare and historic; others are newly made. All are chosen because they have something to say without shouting.

Ultimately, I choose things I find beautiful, useful and well made. Things that I would want in my own home, and that I hope others will enjoy living with too.
