An exceptionally well-preserved pair of PK22 lounge chairs by Poul Kjaerholm, produced by E. Kold Christensen (EKC) in Denmark. Designed in 1956, the PK22 is one of the defining icons of Danish modernism and Scandinavian furniture design, exemplifying Kjærholm’s distinctive approach to combining industrial materials, precise proportions and refined craftsmanship.

This pair features original natural cane upholstery in remarkable condition, with the tightly woven cane showing very little evidence of use. The slender brushed-steel frames retain the character and details associated with early E. Kold Christensen production, including the original flat-head Allen machine screws, distinctive structural plate cuts, and subtle natural pitting and patina developed over decades.

The hand-caned seats feature the intricate braided wrapping along the front edge characteristic of early cane versions of the PK22. The contrast between the cool, architectural steel frame and warm natural cane gives the chairs a particularly refined presence, while their low and open construction creates the lightness for which Kjærholm’s design is renowned.

This is one of the finest pairs of early PK22 chairs we have acquired. Both chairs are presented in exceptionally preserved vintage condition, with unusually well-preserved original cane and beautifully aged steel frames
