Description
This set of two "Sassi" ("Rocks") stones is a rare example of Italian design and experimental art from the late 1960s. Created by Piero Gilardi in collaboration with Gufram, these stones are crafted from polyurethane foam and finished with Guflac coating, giving them a realistic, tactile appearance while remaining lightweight and durable.
Conceived during Gilardi’s exploration of avant-garde movements including Arte Povera, Land Art, and Antiform Art, these stones reflect his focus on the relationship between humans and nature. They also carry a wabi-sabi quality, celebrating imperfection and natural texture, making them a favorite in interiors styled by designers like Axel Vervoordt.
Ideal as sculptural accents, these stones invite both visual admiration and tactile interaction, bridging art, design, and nature in a playful yet contemplative way.
