Set of 4 S45 Dining Chairs

Designed by Pierre Chapo in 1979, the S45, also known as the “Chlacc,” is one of the French designer’s most sculptural and technically accomplished creations.

Handcrafted in France from elm wood, the chair is constructed from seven individually shaped wooden sections, joined end-to-end and glued to create its distinctive slender, elongated form. Its seemingly simple structure conceals a highly complex construction, with eleven joinery points bringing the seven elements together.

The crossing Chlacc legs form the structural heart of the chair, while the backrest is anchored directly into the two rear legs, which extend at a pronounced angle. Despite its sculptural appearance and lightweight silhouette, the S45 is remarkably comfortable.

With its architectural lines and expressive geometry, the S45 exemplifies Chapo’s ability to combine traditional French craftsmanship with a distinctly modern, almost architectural approach to furniture design.
