Description

A rare opportunity to acquire an original set of Pierre Jeanneret cross leg (x-leg) lounge chairs, all sourced from the same administrative building, the High Court Secretariat (H.C.S.) in Chandigarh. Each chair bears its original H.C.S. / CH marking, confirming its authentic provenance.

Also known as the Cross Easy Chair, this iconic Jeanneret design exemplifies the restrained modernism of the Chandigarh project. Crafted in solid teak with handwoven cane, the model is distinguished by its bold “X” double-leg frame, which flows into angular armrests and is joined by a central stretcher for both balance and integrity. The slanted, independent backrest in flat canework reflects Jeanneret’s sensitivity to proportion and comfort.

Far rarer than his better-known compass-leg models, the X-leg form is among the most sculptural and sought-after of Jeanneret’s designs.

The chairs have been expertly recaned and lightly restored, preserving their rich patina and the traces of use that attest to their institutional history.
