Description

This Le Corbusier-designed Cabanon stool, originating from the 1950s, is a quintessential icon of mid-century modern furniture. Designed originally for Le Corbusier’s holiday residence in the south of France, the box stool embodies his minimalist aesthetic and innovative approach to functionality and form.

This stool was crafted in Chandigarh, India, a city that Le Corbusier himself helped to design and develop along with his cousin Pierre Jeanneret. Chandigarh was envisioned as a symbol of modernity and progress in post-independence India, and Le Corbusier’s contributions included not only urban planning but also the creation of furniture that reflected the modernist ethos of the time.

The Cabanon stool is made from teak, a durable and richly grained wood that is well-suited to the region's climate and available resources. Despite its age and traces of use, the piece embodies the longevity and resilience of the era and has all its original parts in tact.

The vintage Cabanon stools are exceptionally rare as they were  custom-made for Le Corbusier's projects and not in production until much later. Ours is lightly restored and will function beautifully as a side table, stool or object d’art.
